Party People: Kelley Vaught, Shindigs & Celebrations
Employee, Shindigs & Celebrations
Q: What drew you to this business?
I attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and chose to major in communications. Fortunately for me, this major proved to be an umbrella of many things I enjoyed studying. I was able to take classes in Public Relations and Web Design and intern with event planners and marketing coordinators at the Doubletree Hotel, Alexian Brothers Health Systems and Parkridge Hospital. My first part-time job when I moved back to Nashville was assisting in planning events for Morningside, an assisted living community. Then, I was hired at Vanderbilt in the Dermatology clinic and fell in love with the atmosphere and my coworkers, but ultimately decided I wasn’t satisfied at a desk job. Working at Shindigs has been a perfect fit for me. I’m able to practice my love for event planning, work for the best bosses and experience something new and challenging each day.
Q: What’s the best party you’ve ever been to?
I’m not sure I have one party in mind that stands out above the rest. I believe any party can be a great one as long as it includes the perfect mixture of beautiful decorations, good music, lots of dancing, my favorite people, and, of course, cake.
Q: What’s your favorite all-time costume?
In my opinion, homemade costumes are always the best. I’m most proud of the Daisy and Donald Duck costumes that my date and I wore to my high school Homecoming, we made everything from scratch and they were by far the most creative costume I’ve thought up. Also, my best friend and I like to come up with unique Halloween costumes every year. I can really appreciate the time it takes to create an out-of-the-box costume instead of going with something pre-packaged.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Nashville?
There is never a shortage of things to do here. Even after 25 years, I’m still discovering so many new things to do and places to go in this city. If I had to choose one thing that stands out above the rest, it would be the live music. Nashville is filled to the brim with talented artists!
