Fledging New England Party Supplies store featured by Taunton Gazette

Tristan Michael-Savage’s story of starting his own balloon and party store is a feel-good one, but also one of caution.

Michael-Savage’s store, New England Party Supplies, is located in Silver City Galleria mall in Taunton, Massachusetts. It opened in November 2016, although Michael-Savage’s history as a budding retailer started when he was 10 years old, when he used to buy cases of candy from a local iParty store and sell it to kids in the neighborhood at a slight mark-up.

New England Party Supplies’ balloon sales accounts for 60 percent of revenue, with greeting cards, costumes, bakery supplies and bar supplies making up the rest, wrote Charles Winokoor of the Taunton Gazette.

As it has been said over and over, location is of utmost importance in any business. Michael-Savage took the current instability of traditional big-box retailers into account when he only signed a one-year lease at the mall. Just two months after he opened, Macy’s — one of the mall’s anchor stores — closed its doors.
