Social media and its influence on the balloon trend
“Doin’ it for the ‘gram.” This sentiment is echoed in so many Instagram users, and the notion of posting things on social media includes Facebook and Twitter as well.
Balloons are so much more than a last-minute get-well-soon gift or the marker attached to a mailbox to signify the party house. They evoke a classic cheerfulness, and now they add an artistic touch to some amazing Instagram accounts. “Like the cupcake before it, the balloon is a once-mundane party staple reinvented for the Pinterest and Instagram crowd,” read a story from the Star Tribune. “With the aid of digital influencers, its popularity is soaring.”
Carly Van Veldhuizen, head of Minneapolis-based Girl Friday Creative, is the go-to in the Twin Cities for larger than life balloon installations that have become wildly popular lately. Having only started a couple years ago, Girl Friday Creative has added companies like Target and Mall of America to its client list.
Changes in balloons have helped skyrocket the uptick in interest. Newer colors, shapes and styles help create fun and sometimes crazy installations that make the perfect photo backdrop.
