Average American will spend more than $1,000 on holiday shopping

Holiday spending expected to increase to $720 billion

The National Retail Federation announced that it expects holiday retail sales in November and December — excluding automobiles, gasoline and restaurants — to increase between 4.3 and 4.8 percent over 2017 for a total of $717.45 billion to $720.89 billion. Holiday shopping survey may offer some surprises

Fourth of July spending expected to rise slightly this year

The average family will spend about the same on Independence Day cookouts and picnics this year as last, but with more Americans celebrating the holiday, total spending should be slightly higher, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights and Analytics.
